I just sent this email out to a number of people who have downloaded qflex. I though it would be of interest to see for some of the people who haven't downloaded Qflex as well.

We are very excited because over 200 of you have
downloaded Qflex during past several weeks. I would
like to update you with several important news.

1. Number of customers reported a following error when
attempting to login for the first time.
HTTP error:500
java.lang.NullPointerException
com.netflexity.qflex.servlet.filters.QFlexAuthenticationFilter.deduceUser(QFlexAuthenticationFilter.java:149)

com.netflexity.qflex.servlet.filters.QFlexAuthenticationFilter.doFilter(QFlexAuthenticationFilter

This error is produced when Qflex is unable to connect
to the database. There are several common reasons why
this happens.
1a. If you are using Windows XP, when you attempt
to save *.war or *.jar files, XP actually saves them
as *.zip files, so if you are experiencing this error,
make sure all *.jar and *.war files you have saved
were saved as *.war and *.jar otherwise Tomcat will
not be able to load necessary libraries to connect to
the Databse.
1b. Make sure that during the set up of jdbc/QFLEX,
you have specified the password as configured in
qflex.sql.
1c. In order to help you with troubleshooting an
issue like that. New release of Qflex will be posted
shortly. This release will allow you to test database
connectivity prior to logging in.
2. Many of you have already received this update so I
apologize for the repeat.
2a. MS SQL Server Support is now available.
2b. Oracle and DB2 support should become available
within next two weeks.
2c. German and Spanish versions of the product are
scheduled for release by the end of Q2.
2d. Full Websphere Message Broker support is
scheduled for release April 15th. With this version
you will be able to see and monitor for all types of
Broker events including statistics. You will also have
enhanced view of the Topic namespace and subscriber
trees.
3. Most of you have installed and are running Qflex
successfully. But if you are still having problems,
please do not hesitate to contact us, we are here to
help. Netflexity has hired 3 new members for a total
of 5 to our support staff to help with any issues you
might have. If you are reporting an issue first good
step is always to zip up your %TOMCAT_HOME\logs and
C:\home\QFLEX\logs directories and send those to us
along with the explanations. For support call, send an
email to qflex@netflexity.com or refer to several
phone numbers listed on our website.
4. There will be a cummulative patch coming out next
week with few minor ehancements so stay tuned for more
updates.

Enjoy You Weekend,

Mikhail.

Qflex 1.0.12 has been released. Please take a look at
http://www.netflexity.com/install/upgrade1012.txt
Some of the most notable features in this release are
fixed bugs obviously, fixpack for SQL Server however
support for SQL Server is only available for
commercial customers and alert notifications via AOL
instant messenger. The logic for alert notifications
had also been cleaned up to ensure no redundant alerts
are sent out.

Upcoming Releases:
-WebSphere Message Broker Monitoring and Statistics
-UDB DB2 8.x Support

Hey malammik,

When I do "http://localhost:8080/QFLEX/default.do"

I get--> "Unable to connect to database, please check JNDI settings"

1)mqsql ver = 5.0.18 running on XP
2)lower_case_table_names = 1
3)there are no .ZIP files in Apache Software Foundation tree

Any ideas?

Due to many timely email responses from malammik, I have resolved all of my issues and have qFlex up and running. It isn't doing any work yet, but it is running.

My root issue was that I had incorrectly configured the Catalina datasource by entering "com.mysql.jdbc.driver" instead of "com.mysql.jdbc.Driver", as indicated in the instructions.

I probably had 5 - 10 sidebar email communications with malammik in which he was extremely responsive.

It is obvious that netFlexity is committed to providing an "Exceptional Customer Experience"

Thanks malammik.

I am glad that someone is getting responses from Netflexity, my experience is somewhat different. I have posted log files more than a month ago and had no response yet.
I will post some of the problems here in a hope that someone else is getting the same errors.

Error1
CommandExecutorLocator failed to load '/dormDiscoveryClasses.properties' file.
java.lang.InstantiationException: Concrete class not found {}
at org.netflexity.dorm.util.DiscoveryUtil.newInstance .......

Error2:
org.netflexity.dorm.command.CommandException: CommandExecutor Throwable failed:org.netflexity.dorm.util.AssertionFailedException: Failed to find pk :9 for type :trig_condition_types

I have checked the database and both the Mysql and MSsql scripts, this trigger type is not defined anyware but referenced somewhere.

Error3:
QflexScheduler_Worker-1, (this errors gets thrown for all monitors defined)
CommandExecutor Throwable failed:java.lang.NullPointerException

Error4:
Text entered for monitors for email notification can only be 255 characters long. if you accidently go over this limit the monitor will revert back to its previous state and you will loose all the nice text you just entered. I know this is the limit for MS SQL varchar but can this not be stored in a blob object.

Error5:
QflexScheduler_Worker-4 (but this could be for any worker object)
java.sql.SQLException: Could not find stored procedure '#jtds000001'.
I again checked the instructions, scanned through all the SQL scripts and nowhere could I find a deffinition of this stored procedure. Do anyone know if I made an installation/configuration mistake.
(This came from the Dorm_log)

Error6:
QflexScheduler_Worker-5 (again this could be any worker object)
java.sql.SQLException: Transaction (Process ID 71) was deadlocked on lock resources with another process and has been chosen as the deadlock victim. Rerun the transaction.

Qflex being the only user to this database and I am the only person using it , I find it hard to beleive that something can be locked.

Error7:
The statistics sometimes do not display when i log into QLEX, the resolution is then to restart Apache server.

I had allot more errors but will not bore everyone with the detail. It does however seem that the product is not complete. I had to add columns to the database which were reference by SQL but not defined. I found descrepencies in the deffinitions of the objects in MS SQL scripts and MySQL scripts.

Most functions do work OK. Don't try to track configuration changes. It does not work.

We are committed to providing exceptional customer service regardless of the user status. Simply posting a log file will not get you a response from support unless a specific issue had been addressed.

Are you experiencing a specific user problem that you think is related to these exceptions?

This has been addressed in Qflex 2.0 due out shortly. Thank You.

This is a known jtds mssql driver bug. Once again it is not causing any user problems.

There will be discrepancies between the scripts and product is designed to handle them.

Change control does work. Have you started config collection?

Thanks for your feedback. I will forward this to support in case I missed something. We will also be exposing a bug entry database which users will be able to use to enter bugs via internet. Hopefully this will facilitate any kind of mis-communication issues.

Thanks for all the replies, please do not see my responses as negative. I personally think it is a great product. It already is proving to be very usefull in identifiying issues before it become problems.

I want to start with the configuration control, I have found the problem. This function takes about 5 minutes to refresh. I assumed it is not working. The reason for this delay is that it is connecting to all the queue managers and compiling the information. Our queue managers is distributed over South Africa with slow connections. Now I assume again, this is the reason why this function takes so long.

The biggest problem I experience is that time and again I have to restart apache to get the statistics to display correctly. I get a false reading on how many messages were processed.
The problem starts by receiving no stats displayed, after starting apache I get a reading of over 2 million messages in the last 24 hours, after I while this figures stabilize and display 180 000 messages in last 24 hours. I don't know what figures to beleive. I can send you screendumps of the display if required.

The problem with the triggers monitors (Pk:9 not found)
I have defined a monitor on a channel going into "Inactive" state. I have then stopped the channel and placed it inactive state. I then do not see the alert but then noticed this error in the dorm log.

I must admit that I looked at the loggs and saw all this errors logged. Not all of them relates to problems experienced on the actual product.

Regards

Jacques

The channel alert problem has also been addressed in the next release even though there is a fix for the current version. As far as statistics not displayed correctly until qflex is restarted, no other customer has reported this issue. That does not mean there isn't a defect in the product. How many queue managers do u collect stats for? What is the collection policy? How many queues in totoal do you collect stats for? How often does that problem occur? On each logon or if u have not been logging in for a while?

Thanks.

This problem occurs if I have not logged on for a while. I am collecting data for 6 queue managers where 4 of them are from remote stations on our WAN using MQ express. The other two are on the local network.
I am not at work at the moment but it is about of 50 queues.
i will in ht enext few days monitor the situation and do screen dumps and then email you.

thanks for the help

Jacques
