Hi guys,
We are planning to migrate our test and production environment from MQ 5.2 (with MSCS support) to MQ 5.3 latest version(MSCS). Can someone provide a link or so which guides me in doing so?
I found a document which says how to configure MQ Series MSCS support. But if get a document which helps me in migrating 5.2 to 5.3 with MSCS support, that wouild be greatful.

I don't think there is a specific document on this specific migration produced by IBM.
If there is, it would be a redbook or redpiece, and you could find it at http://www.redbooks.ibm.com/
Otherwise, I think the upgrade procedure is just
1) remove the backup node from MSCS control
2) upgrade MQ on that node
3) add the node back to MSCS
4) failover
5) upgrade the new backup node
But someone who's done this or similar with MSCS will probably disagree.

Thanks for your reply.
I searched in redbooks,but could hardly find anything on the stuff which I'm looking for.
I guess what you said to follow is probably the way to migrate. But when I do a 'Evict Node' on the backup node(I guess this is the way to remove the node from cluster,but not sure if there are any other steps to be followed or preceded with), is there any possibility of losing the data?
Once I remove the node from MSCS, can I straight away stop and uninstall MQ 5.2 on the stand alone node, install MQ 5.3 and apply fix packs?What should I be mention about the QMgr & Logs data location?I mean should I give the shared drive's information now itself, or do I need to move it later on?
Kindly guide me in this regard. Anyone who has migrated MQ 5.2 with MSCS support, please let me know.

This makes me think twice before I actually start working on migration.
Since IBM stopped supporting MQ 5.2, I have no other option left but to take all you guys advice before I start migrating. Kindly provide your valuable inputs. |

These are my questions:
1) Should I take the queue manager offline before migrating? i.e remove all the queue managers from MSCS CONTROL?
2) Since the queue manager's data is stored in a shared drive, while installing MQ 5.3, what should be the data and log files location?Should that be the shared drive or local drive?
3) Once this node is added back to cluster, is a failover possible? Because the two nodes will now be having two different configurations.
4) If not, what is the other alternative?
PLEASE GUIDE ME WITH YOUR EXPERTISE IN MIGRATING. |

Guys,
Since I didn't get any replies, I had to post again.
Someone please let me know atleast whether before migrating, should I get the Queue Manager data to the local drive from shared drive, and then migrate it?
Or is it possible to migrate to newer version even when the queue manager's data is stored in the shared drive?
I really need someone's guidance in this regard. It's greatly appreciated if anyone replies with the solution.

Since we have Test and Prod environments setup with MQ 5.2(MSCS), I have to staright away work on Test environment initially, which is also being used extensively.
I'm just making sure that I get the procedure correctly, so that I do not mess up with the perfectly running current system. |

Peter,
Can you just let me know whether before uninstalling MQ and installing new version of MQ, do I need to bring the queue managers log & data files back to the local drive? or else is it fine to keep those files in shared drive, just make the queue manager offline, and unistall/install MQ in the local drive? |

what I did, and there may be other ways, and there may be better ways, is this:
Back up the QM defs using MS03.
Clear out any app queues or save the messages with QPASA.
Bring the QM(s) offline.
Bring the QM files back to the local drive.
Uninstall the Support Pack u needed with 5.2
Uninstall MQ.
Delete anything in the MQ directory.
Same thing on the other node.
Reboot.
Now I got a clean system. 2 clustered servers with no MQ at all.
Install MQ 5.3 CSD12.
Build the QM.
Test the QM.
Move the QM out to the share drive and register it in MSCS.
Fail the QM back and forth.
Zero problems, did it on multiple clusters.
Tell your bosses they're jerks for not giving you a lab to try new things.
