Hi,
We have MQ WorFlow 3.4 (with DB2 8.1 FP 5 )installed in our UAT environment. It's just a fresh installation. Nothing has been imported or no clients are connected to it.
Now I have to migrate it to version 3.6. I went through the document. But want to make sure from someone who is an expert. Here is what I'm planning to do. Kindly let me know if I'm missing something:
1.Stop DB2. Upgrade DB2 v 8.1 FP 5 to latest fix pack 12.
2. Do I need to follow the step in doc: Migrate Runtime database v 3.3.2 or higher to versoin 3.6? (Since I beilieve no data is imported to it)
3. Stop all Workflow componenets, including DB2. Uninstall MQ WF 3.4
4. Install MQWF 3.6. And verify installation. |

If I understand correctly, why not just remove MQWF V34. Upgrade db2. Install MQWF V3.6 _________________ John McDonald

Thanks a lot jmac.
That sounds a good idea.I'll do that.
But once I install MQWF 3.6, should I still follow all the configuration steps in the manual? Or is it just like MQ Series that we can simply uninstall & re-install the new version, every thing else taken care automatically? |

Since you are uninstalling MQWF I would follow all the steps in the manual when you reinstall _________________ John McDonald

JMac,
I uninstalled the MQ Workflow 3.4 without any changes being made to other components. Now I can use the same runtime database (FMCDB, used with MQ WF 3.4) even with my new MQ Workflow 3.6, right?
Thank you. |

No, you need to build a new one... it should not be any problem since it was empty anyway based on what you said previously _________________ John McDonald

So do I need to drop the existing FMCDB and recreate it while creating the new configuration 'fmc'? |

That would be the most logical thing to do. |

Hi,
After successfully upgrading DB2 8.1.5 to FP 12, I tried to drop the database FMCDB. But it says that it could not be found on local database directory. Since I uninstalled Workflow yesterday, the 'rt_db' directory under the '/var/fmc'(working directory) no longer exists. So I could not even catalog the db to drop it.
Now can I just go ahead with my Workflow 3.6 installation? When I create the new configuration 'fmc',is it possible to use the existing db FMCDB(since when i did a list database direcroty I was still able to see FMCDB)?
Thanks for your kind help. |

Hi,
you have exactly hit the point that all the previous appenders tried to avoid! Please do not use FMCDB as your 3.6 database name before you completely get rid of it with DB2 means!
In 3.4 it is a problem to uninstall MQWF and select to keep the DB if the DB is located in a MQWF directory. This is exactly what happened to you. Now you have a orphan DB entry that is no longer usable for DB2. |

Thanks for your reply.
I uncatalouged the DB. I was able to create FMCDB while creating the new configuration FMC earlier today. Evenrything seemed to be fine, until I run the command: fmczchk -y fmc (using fmc id itself, which has full rights)
The following msgs were displayed in log file:
$ fmczchk -y fmc

I see that in qm.ini file, there is no hint of FMCDB anywhere. Is this the problem? If so, kindly guide me to rectify it.
Thanks a lot. |

I also made sure that listener is up and running. This time when I did a fmczchk, I was able to connect to FMCDB with 'fmc' id. But I still see the errors starting from :
FMC34538E: Instance for FMCQM is <null>, but DB2INSTANCE is set to db2inst5. |

Thanks a lot guys, I got it working.
It was because I copied over the MQWFCHL.TAB file from production. And moreover the persmissions were not set exactly. |
