I've tried to search for info on this topic, on IBM, Google and here (although the search engine here doesn't seem to be working? Searching for "MQ" returns nothing????). There just doesn't seem to be any information about compatibility.
Basically I need to know if it is possible to run MQ 5.3 with Java 5, as we are looking to upgrade to WebLogic 9, which runs on Java 1.5. Apparently the differences between Java 4 and 5 are significant, and as a result, we're naturally curious about how it will affect our MQ installations. |

The Java classes for MQ are compatible with Java 1.5/5, as far as I know.
Supported is a different question.
But MQ itself does not use Java on it's own for anything - so there won't be any effect on MQ itself from changing the JVM that is installed. The only impact will be on your code/WebLogic code. _________________ I am *not* the model of the modern major general. |

Supported Environments are listed here:
http://www-1.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg27007065
I see that Java 5 is listed for WMQ V6 (at least on windows - didn't bother checking all platforms), but no mention in the V5.3 pages. That means it's not currently supported.
Whether or not it works is another matter ...
A more important question might be whether levels of WebLogic other than the listed ones are supported. |
