Hi,
We have new CVS installed on AIX.
MB6.0 Toolkit is on xp machine.
We created a Repository on cvs and then tried to test the connectivity from MB Toolkit6.0 with cvs repository perspective by giving the parameters like
Host Name, Repository path, username, password, and connection type as pserver. Selected the default port. The information that I have given here is correct .
I got the message like below
Error validating location:” can’t locate host”.
Any suggestions.
I gone through the CVS docs online could not able to figure it out. Do I need to do some changes in config file in CVSROOT?
Any Ideas to share?
Thanks

are you 100% sure the host name and port are correct.
are the machines on the same network , subnet?
do you havce firewalls? xp does, maybe try disabling it.

Can you ping (or otherwise connect to) the host that you specify from the toolkit machine?
As fazz says, ensure that the parameters (particularly the host name) are correct. |

thanks for replies,
Matt!
Yes I am able to connect from xp to aix to do some ftp everday.WMB Broker also got installed in that box and able to communicate through tool kit ..through domain connection in admin perspective.
More over just i passed the command ping on my xp to that mechine.
Pinging xxx.xx.xxx.com [xxx.xxx.xx.xx] with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from xxx.xxx.1.1xx: Destination net unreachable.
Reply from xxx.xxx.1.1xx: Destination net unreachable.
Reply from xxx.xxx.1.1xx: Destination net unreachable.
Reply from xxx.xxx.1.1xx: Destination net unreachable.
Ping statistics for 1xx.xxx.11.xx:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 0ms, Maximum = 0ms, Average = 0ms
Is there anything in this ping result?
Thank you |

If you can successfully FTP from the XP to the AIX machine, but you can't ping from the XP to the AIX - then there is some sort of firewall between the two machines.
It's extremely likely, therefore, that this same firewall is not lettying you establish a connection to the CVS pserver.
Assuming your CVS admins established pserver, and aren't expecting you to use extssh. _________________ I am *not* the model of the modern major general. |
