Hi ,
Presently in the test system I have a MQ V5.3 installation connecting to the backend system which is MQ V5.3 on AIX. At this time we are not migration to MQ version 6. The set up is working fine in test system.
We are planning to migrate to production soon and in production we have two windows 2003 servers. Now I have to set up MQ for high availability. I have only one queue Manager on the windows 2003 server but it has to be working almost 24X 7.
I need your suggestions on how to do MQ clustering for one Queue manager so that high availability is acheived. Should the servers be installed with a shared disk so that MQ can access them? Any URL, Links, suggestions are welcome.
Regards

MQ clustering for one Queue manager so that high availability is acheived.
There are two , One MQ HA Cluster , which in the true sense is for HA ,
Here you have to use the Shared disk , Also I believe not only MQ there should be windows cluster too !
In this case if there is failure the Qmanger will fail to other server.
Second is MQ Queue cluster, which in true sense is not for HA, but for Load Balanceing ,
If you go for MQ Queue cluster , there are various constraints from the putting application , for ex Message delivery sequence is not assured in certain conditions, there may issues with Message grouping .
Also there should be two instances of Application pulling the messages from the Local Queues on Each Cluster node,
Finally if there is a Failure and Messages are stuck on MQ cluster queue , there is no way you can route them to other Qmanger,
In short , If 24/7 is the requirement you should put them in HA cluster ,
as Wayne said read the documentation or Do a search in the MQSeries.net |

All of the version 5.3 documentation is here:
http://www-306.ibm.com/software/integration/wmq/library/library53.html
The information you are looking for on MSCS is in three places: The Quick Beginnings Guide for Windows, the System Admin Guide, and the Help that is installed on YOUR queue manager server machine. _________________ I am *not* the model of the modern major general. |

Did you happen to notice that:
(1) That supportpac is WITHDRAWN
(2) It's for V5.1 and V5.2 of MQ, NOT v5.3.
I gave you the link for using MSCS with MQ at the top of this topic. There is also info in Chapter 13 of the Sys Admin guide for MQ v5.3
ok? _________________ -wayne |

Just to be extra extra clear.
EVERYTHING you need to use MSCS with MQ is already installed on your v5.3 server.
The only thing you have left is to read, learn, and apply what you've learned.
Or at least, follow the instructions in the System Administration Guide. _________________ I am *not* the model of the modern major general. |
