The IA0X FTP server input node support pack was downloaded and installed by me.
A test flow was made. It contains this FTP input node, a reset content descr. node and a trace node. Steps of my test were the following:
1. ftp machine name
2. type username
3. type pwd
4. put filename
5. bye
- Its documentation said: The node will ask for userid and password, the information that you enter here will be stored in the message “Properties” folder as “userid” and “ password” elements so that they can be checked by the flow (for example using the LDAP node). The result of the test was the following:

Where are the user name and password in the message “Properties” folder?!
- If I type bin before in order to send the input file in binary mode, the result is:

Hello - while I have not used the FTP input node you may want to instead use WebSphere PM4Data at the orginating file server. PM4Data breaks down that file into multiple MQ messages and then your flow can process it - it would make life alot easier than writing the file handling logic in the flow.
Message me if you'd like further information. |

PM4Data does not, as I understand it (and please correct me if I'm wrong), handle the FTP protocol.
It's a very good product once there are actual files on actual disks... but not so good if you want to open up ports 21 and 20 to your network to accept files by FTP.
I don't think anyone has helped the original poster because the FTP plugin nodes are withdrawn. And I don't know if anyone ever put them into production, either. _________________ I am *not* the model of the modern major general. |

When was this support pac (IA0X) withdrawn..?
It still appears on the support pac list and has been updated for use in v5.
(Yes, I am wanting to use it and yes, I am having trouble)
Cheers. |

I was thinking of a different FTP support pack, I guess. _________________ I am *not* the model of the modern major general. |

Jeff - you are correct - PM4Data does not open up the FTP ports and does not handle the FTP protocol.
What it's meant to do (and how I propose to use it) is to replace FTP b/c well the broker can't handle large files. You also have to write the logic within your flow to handle a file. FTP breaks (transfer has to be reconciled) and you can't audit the trasnfer of a file.
I like the PM4Data product b/c it breaks down the file into small messages (especially useful if each line in your file corresponds to one record) and then the broker processes one record at a time doing what it does best (transformation/routing). PM4Data also provides greater stability around those batch processes reducing the early morning pages. |

Unfortunately I am still having problems with IA0X on WBIMB v5 (CSD 4).
I have installed the FTP Node and everything seems to be ok.
However, when trying to ftp to this server, I get the message "Connected to <hostname>" and then nothing happens.
After what must be a timeout, I get the message "Connection closed by remote host"
I would normally accept the ftp server to return a command asking for a user id.
This is not happening.
Does anyone have any idea what could be wrong..?
Thanks. |

hi,
My apologies on this confusion of userid / passwd missing. I have made the code modifications so that this information is now available under LocalEnvironment tree. But these changes are not uploaded into the support pac. I have requested for an upgrade of it. This functionality will be available in couple of days.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
