My qm.in states a max of 32 Primary and 2 secondary(linear logging), however my QM disregards this - I've encounters times when the QM AMQERR01.LOG files states that around 2000 log files are required for MQ object recovery, slightly less for QM recovery, if a rcdmqimg is not regularly run, this obviously uses much disk space.

Is the maximum number of linear logs actually used never more than 63, IBM have stated this previously:

The total number of 'active' logs will not exceed the total of the
number of primary and secondary logs as defined in your qm.ini file.
These are the values you specified during the crtmqm process unless you
went back later and manually altered these values in the qm.ini file.
(please note that you can not define the queue manager to have more
than 63 total primary and secondary logs).
When you are using linear logging, the number of active logs is
still defined or limited by the number of primary and secondary logs.

If disk space is becoming an issue, I may need to delete/move the logs required for an object recovery, and just keep the QM recovery ones, will this scupper the rcdmqing?

Thanks all!!

The active log does not have more log files than the sum of the primary and secondary.
The log extent required for qmgr restart is always within the active log; the log extent required for object recovery can be outside the active log.
Running rcdmqimg moves the object recovery log extent forward, perhaps inside the active log if there is enough space.

Mr "thebeach": there is a thread on managing linear logs "going on" right now:
