Hi all,
I am currently building an MQ cluster on Windows Server 2003 and i am having a little problem...
Having sucessfully run haregtyp /r to register the MSCS resource type. I cannot see it in MSCS admin when creating a new resource.
I have restarted both nodes - no effect
I have looked in the registry under HKLM\Cluster\Resources\ResourceTypes and the IBM Websphere MQ MSCS entry is present along with all the other resource types
Why cant i see it in cluster admin when i attempt to create a new resource?

Well from my understanding that is only supported under win2000 or win NT
and not under 2003
http://www-1.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=203&uid=swg24000152&loc=en_US&cs=utf-8&lang=en
From IBM
Prerequisites
This SupportPac requires:
Either
Microsoft Windows NT4 Enterprise Edition SP6a, or later
Microsoft Cluster Server (MSCS)
MQSeries for Windows NT V5.1, MQSeries for Windows NT and Windows 2000 V5.2, or
MQSeries for Windows NT and Windows 2000 V5.2.1.
or
Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server _________________ Jeff

Jeff, its OK for 2003, we have about 20 MSCS clusters on 2003 here with no issue.
Brian, I don't know why you have the problem. I looked back at my build notes, and all I have is the following. We did nothing else special. What version of MQ? I have 5.3 CSD11.

If this server is part of a Microsoft Hardware Cluster, you must register the resource type of IBM WebSphere MQ MSCS, so that you will be able to add the QM to MSCS. Do the following from the command line on both servers in the MS cluster before attempting to build the QM (skip the quotes): “haregtyp /r”

Brian
The name of the resource is not quite what is documented in the WMQ Manuals.
On my W2K3 SP1 + WMQ 6.0.1 system I see
IBM MQSeries MSCS
Look for that resource and you should be ok.

Brian,
You may/need also need to reset the startup of your queue managers to MANUAL from AUTO.
Then when you create you WBI Brokers.... Don't modify the services for the broker and configmgr to make them start automatically.
If you have them starting under system reboot controll as well as by the service you risk making the cluster max its CPU at 100% and be totally unusable......

Thanks so far guys, but i still have the problem mentioned in my first post.
No resource starting with the letters IBM appears in my available resource types even though it appears in the resource type list in the registry.
Anyone else have any ideas? |

To help with clarification of the problem... look at the following pictures.
1st picture is the result of the haregtyp /r command (run on both nodes)
next picture is the registry key showing the available resourse types
next pic is the result of an enumeration script found in the MS site ...
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/mscs/mscs/enumerating_objects_with_cluster_automation_server.asp
So the available types show the IBM MQSeries MSCS resource as available, but after a reboot (of both nodes) this is what i see in cluster admin when adding a resource.
and this is the view of the resource types key under cluster configuration
Can anyone shed light on why the cluster admin list is incomplete?[/i]

Brian,
If this were anywhere else, I would suggest raising a PMR with IBM but this certainly seems to be a Microsoft problem given the evidence you have presented.

The problem arose because WMQ had been installed on the system and configured. Then it was all removed and re-installed (Quite why I am not clear).
Then the MSCS Resource was not visible.
Working offline with Brian, He rebuilt everything from the gorund up and is now running an MSCS Cluster with WMQ & WBI.

So, it was installed, registered with MSCS, uninstalled, re-installed... and not re-registered? _________________ I am *not* the model of the modern major general. |
