Hi, I'd like to have a good backup the QM data and log so that I can recover from. "Good backup" means a backup taken at syncpoint. Can I force a syncpoint prior to the backup without taking the QM down ?

Any help will be very appreciated.

No is the simple answer,

What reason would you do a restore ?????
I assume you just want the queue manager
restored with all the queues channels and security settings ???

if so you can use support pacs to back up definitions (live) and if you have script/bat file that is used to create the queue manager (number/type logs)
then you can recover much quicker by recreating the queue manager and applying the backed up definitions than restoring from tape.

Thanks Jeff for your quick response.

The backup I'm taking will be used for disaster recovery only i.e. in case of unpexpected failure e.g. a queue was accidentally deleted or a system crash...
My question is, if we're taking a snapshot of /var/mqm/log and /var/mqm/qmgrs, can we use that snap shot to recover the queue manager or its objects (if such failure occurs) to a point-in-time ?
