I have a problem where a message has grown too big for the default "Maximum Message Length" of 4194304 bytes set up for the queue and the channel. So, I did some testing and simply raised the maximum message length (on the queue, channel and qmgr) and it seems to work well, so far. My question is if anyone knows if this adjustment of the message length can have any unforeseen effects that I'm not yet aware of? Does anyone have any experience from messages that have grown too big and how you can handle this issue?
(The platforms involved in the message transfer is AS400 and Windows 2003) |

i dont want to discuss about message size here, just the facts:
i assume you are using a mq version that supports >4mb messages
you have to verify all queuemanagers that are involved in sending the "big" messages. qmgr maxmsglen, xmitq, sender and receiver channels, destination queues and do not forget the dead letter queues.
if messages are persistent make sure that enough logs are available for the queuemanagers.
the sending end must be able to receive the number of messages in the uow from the putting application
the receiving end must be able to handle the uow to store a batch of messages (one channel uow)
if you do not have enough logspace you may get "transaction rolled back to release logspace"
well... thats what came into my mind first.... _________________ Regards, Butcher |

And client channel max message size if used to access these queues. |

Ok, thanks! Mr Butcher: Just out of curiosity, what do you mean by "i dont want to discuss about message size here...". It sounds as if you think sending large messages over MQ basically is not a good idea...? Perhaps I can learn something by asking these annoying questions! =) |
