Let's say I have a collaboration template with compensation service call. The compensation service call can be successful or not.
How does Wokrflow realize whether the compensation was successful or not?
Will the Workflow receive an error in both cases?
I mean, it is pointless to do a compensation if Worflow cannot know whether the compensation was successful or not.

Workflow doesn't do compensation, although you can program it explicitly within the flow.
ICS and process choreograher support compensation, I haven't done any ICS for ages, but I assume it is similar to process choreographer in that you have some kind of repair facility. If a flow fails during compensation, you can retry, skip onto the next compensation or just abort compensation.
In any case you need some kind of human intervention to determine exactly what the problem is, what state the partner systems are in, and what to do next to rectify the problem and get everything back into a consistent state. |
