Hi all,
this is not gonna be a typicall certification question because I am not asking for sample tests, or how to pass the test
I was thinking about taking one of those:
http://www.itil-itsm-world.com/itil-training.htm
and that's exactly why I am asking.
Did any of you take some ITIL training or certification? Do you learn/gain anything that gives value to your live? Or do they just reinforce things that you could make up your own if applying common sense.
I already know (more or less) what ITIL it is about, and think this might be really interesting, but have not yet decided whether it is interesting enough to spend money on it
I think employers are getting quiet excited nowadays if you know what ITIL is about.
Any feedback is appreciated
THX

my take is the more you know about ITIL itself, the more you get into the "non-techie" environment.
if that's your goal, go for it...
if you like the tech stuff, knowing how to spell ITIL and use your common sense is enough... _________________ Michael

At one point I was trained on ITIL by my previous company. I did not appear for the certification. It was more of process based training. things like Service Level Management, Incident Management, Configuration Management etc are a part of the training and certification.
Of the people who had cleared the ITIL certification I did not see much change in their way of working except for the fact that they will brag about it.
Needless to say it might be useful if you are on a managerial position. |

Thaks for your valuable input!
Michael,
Well, for me it will definitely be a techie role in the next couple of years.
So I think I'll buy a book and delay the training for some time (maybe 10 years )
Raja,
Nevertheless. Did you like the training? OK... I know it is still dependant on the person giving the trainging. But the content should be about the same everywhere...
cheers

Yes the training was quite good. But as I said if you want to be only a techie ....this may not be the one for you. If your company is sponsoring it I don't see much harm in taking it either, provided you have some spare time. |
