Okay, I want want to search for all posts within the last 24 hours, is there a way to do that? I can't seem to get the "search" to give me what I want..... shoot me if this is a stupid question that I should be able to figure out on my own ....

Well... The search page doesn't seem to.

But the "View posts since your last visit" is pretty non-specific. It just seems to show all posts in newest-first order. Or, I guess, just one page of all posts in newest-first order.

Yeah, thats what I usually use, but sometimes I want to go back and look again at a post, and I usually get "no new posts for you!" message.

Well, and I'm sure Brandon will just love me giving this information out...

A search for an author of "***" will list every post.

That's peanuts! What about (in order of importance):

1. Can't use quotation marks (!)
2. No "+" and "-" signs, that is, can't exclude.
3. Can't search for partial strings, search "messa" you'll find only that whole word.
4. Can't search for numbers, when I try searching for "v6" or just "6" - zero posts.
5. Apparently, you can't search for common words such as "who", "do", "you" etc. I agree these words should have a low search-ranking, but sometimes I remember a post by such a sentence, and I can't find it.

Forget about my difficulties, i'll manage; But what all those searching newbies who can't find what they're looking for? This site is meant to be a repository for known MQ issues, and without a descent (and this is not even a basic) search tool, the whole point is missed.
A better search mechanism has one simple meaning: less posts by newbies; and as much as I enjoy those fluffy conversations, I wish we had more serious discussions around here.

Ouch!

Well, I did try y'know - MQSeries.net - Some statistics, WMQ5.3 WinXP / Queue Files - Research and Discourse \ MQ Dyanmic Queues vs Predefined Queues being my main efforts at the time; but I have grown lax since... I will try again!

That would require people understanding that they shall search first and then post... I don't think this has much to do with the quality of the search fucntion.

Yeah, the search function here is weak. Maybe its the same one IBM's site uses!!!

Use Google. And limit your search to the mqseries.net domain when looking for answers here..

Ouch, that hurt. Although, I didn't write any site searching software.

hmm I don't have a problem finding stuff I need , may be it's about the right words...

I use author * with post in 1 days and 7 days a lot aswell, it would be nice to have a 2 days option (or 24 hours) aswell, I do occasionally spend a day without mqseries.net....
