We would like to send messages via snmp to HP Openview. Does MQ offer a way to do this out-of-the-box, or is there a support pac to do this? If not, would I have to purchase a monitoring tool such as QPasa, contact admin, etc..
We are using MQ 5.3
Thanks for any info in advance |

MQ does not support SNMP directly, nor am I aware of a support pack.
Anyone who knows how to code for SNMP delivery can very easily write an adapter...
But your money is well spent on a monitoring tool, assuming you've done the business case to figure out how much you'd lose in the case of an outage.
The contact admin product line is the official HP solution for monitoring MQ with OpenView. Plus, it's pretty cool. _________________ I am *not* the model of the modern major general. |

I agree that you should spent the money and buy a monitoring product. But, for those odd cases where a monitoring product does not provide the required service, e.g. trapping on an particular OS message id and sending an alert to OpenView, you could create a script, e.g. CLIST or REXX, and invoke rexec to run opcmsg on the OpenView server to raise an alert. I do this for some odd-ball cases. |
