Some of you may have noticed that this site was down for several hours yesterday. As luck would have it, my server is in LA which suffered a major blackout yesterday:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/4239628.stm
All because some workers crossed the wrong wires

Of course, my hosting company assured me they had diesel generators with enough fuel to outlast the apocalypse, but wouldn't you know it, when the power went out and the diesels came on, they couldn't handle the load of all the servers and the generator promptly started smoking which caused a fire alarm to go off and caused the whole building to be evacuated.

Good news is we're back and no data was lost....

I've been seeing some issues with what I assume is database connectivity - I get either blank pages or "Couldn't obtain category list." both Friday and today...

I assume you're notified, as it seems to get resolved.

That is actually an unrelated problem which I *hopefully* have fixed.
The partition that mysql lives on had reached 100% so it was unable to write to its log files and hence the "couldn't obtain category list" problem. There are other cronjobs compressing and deleting older log files so that's why the problem was periodic....

I figured it was unrelated.

I just wasn't sure I should start a new thread.
