NULL = NULL is it true? or UNKNOWN?

Any IDEA...

when xml is coming ..i am checking with null.
like..

Root.XML.text.person.name = NULL;

when result is not null its going through UNKNOWN terminal..
when result is NULL again it is going to UNKNOWN teriminal..

Any IDEA abt this??
