I am fairly new to the MQ world, so any help is appreciated.

I recently installed the MQSeries client on a Win XP machine. The server is on a Unix machine. The installation appeared successful and I was able to test the client connectivity using "amqsputc queueName qmgr" and "amqsgetc queueName qmgr" ... all completed successfully.

On the XP (client ) side, my MQSERVER=channelName/TCP/serverIPAddress(1414)

On the Unix (server) side, I have my queue manager running (with all appropriate queues and channel defined), as well as the listener, and the broker.

Now, I like to test the publish/subscribe feature by running "amqsres qmgr" on the client side and running "amqsgam param1 param2 qmgr" on the server side (the sample programs from the MQSeries 6 trial version installation.) When I run the "amqsres qmgr" on the client, MQCONN errors out with reason code 2058. I understand this means qmgr is not defined properly, but the fact that "amqsputc queueName qmgr" works fine is throwing me for a loop.

Thanks much in advance.

amqsres is not a client application. It can only run on the same machine as an MQ QMGR.

Unless you want to modify the supplied source code.

Cheers,

Ah, well that was an easy explanation. Thanks much.

Are you aware of any other sample applications available to test publish/susbscribe (for my particular scenario)?

If you want to mess with JMS, you could use the mqjmssub.java and mqjmspub.java with a TCF that used a client connection. They can be found at:

I think the ih03 support pack can be helpful for this.
