I am running MQ series V5.3 CSD9
I am new to the MQ environment and am wondering why my predecessors never set up the queue manager to auto start at system reboot. I am running on Windows Server 2000. Should I create a batch file with the strmqm command to run at start up? Any potential problems with this approach? How does the rest of the world handle this? Any suggestions are appreciated.

There's a setting in the MQ Services MMC on the queue manager to decide if it should startup automatically or not.
I wouldn't use strmqm unless that doesn't work.

| I checked that setting on all of my MQ servers, and it is set to AUTOMATIC, but does not seem to work. |

As Jeff stated , it should be set on the IBM MQ Series Services in order for it to start automaticlly

The IBM MQ service and the Queue Manager setting are both set to AUTO. I found an entry in the event log that alerted me to the problem. There is another service running that sometimes interferes with the QMGR start up.

gdrucker if you're still around, could you post a more precise solution for the record? - which service interfered with mq, why, what was the err message, why only "sometimes" etc.
Maybe we'll all learn something... |

on Win using WMQ5.3, you can check the services
C:\>services.msc
and ensure IBM MQSeries is set to Automatic startup (aside from QMgr setting) |

Modify your MQ Explorer MMC and add the MQ Services MMC to it. Then you have one point of access and can look at both at the same time. I find this is easier to work with when I have to check services rather than opening up multiple MMCs. Plus, you can add the Services (and/or MQ Explorer) MMC from other boxes in your network so you can look at them remotely if needed.
