Wouldn't it be nice if we had an MQSeries FAQ? This would eliminate all these redundant answers to redundant questions on redundant topics that appear here and on the listserv all the time.
So the next time someone asks "Does MQ preserve message sequence?", or "What about that DLQ handler in MVS?" or "How do I trigger so and so" we could just point to the FAQ and go home, instead of spending all those keystrokes again.
Any volunteers?
(Don't look at me, I'm going abroad on September... )

Excellent idea.
Brandon, how about creating a FAQ forum and allowing folks to post answers (not questions) to this. Then, someone with admin authority could grab the information from there, and update a single, special, FAQ topic in the forum with the FAQ text and delete the newly posted FAQ entry. This would allow all contributors to post FAQ answers as well as allowing the community to comment on the validity or quality of the answer. The owner of the FAQ would also have less work since the word-smithing of the entry is perfomed by the poster. |

I suppose a decent FAQ (or at least a good start) can be built from much of the already-existing material in this site. This does require some initial work from the FAQ admin, of course.
I don't think the FAQ should be maintained as a topic, but rather as an independent document pointed to by this site. How about replacing that confusing 'FAQ' link at the top right with a link to the MQ FAQ document?

I agree that the FAQ should not just be in the topics list but should also be an HTML document linked from the FAQ button. I just want to ensure that whomever is burdened with collecting the FAQ doesn't have to edit and word smith content as well as maintain the document. That will be a big enough chore in itself. |

I like this idea. We could make the FAQ on the same level as the message forums and the software repository (accessible from the main page) and we could make it accessible via several means (ASCII, HTML, maybe even PDF?) Contributors could be clearly listed (to give incentives to write long winded FAQs) I could also set up an index such that people could quickly access FAQs broken down by subject, platform, version, etc... I also agree with Neil that we should probably have the contributions in the form of posts to a specialized forum. This would make adding to the FAQ an easy process, and more importantly, one that is already understood by the users of this site.
I guess I will just go ahead and do this now, creating a forum for the FAQ that is. Even if we decide not to do this, I can always just remove that forum later. Also, we can move our discussion of exactly how we are going to do this to the new forum...
