Hi,
We are currently running on WMQ6 and WMB6, and now we are planning to upgrade WMQ to 7(only WMQ). So i wanted to know if WMB 6 would run fine with WMQ7.
I searched the forum for this and found some discussions saying that this should not be a problem provided:
WMB6 has the latest fix pack applied.
Should this pre check be fine or is there anything else that i have to add to my checklist.
Thanks!!!!! |

Do you mean WMB 6.0 or WMB 6.1?
Both will run on WMQ 7 providing the appropriate fixpack is applied.
WMB 6.0 is well out of IBM support.
WMB 6.1 has 7 months left. |

It is WMB6.
It is already running in production and the upgrade is gonna happen phasewise
So i wanted to know about the compatibility and any pre req checks that has to be done. |

WMB6.0 is out of support. So its compatibilty with WMQv7 has not been tested and will not be tested. WMBv6.0 is not, in IBM's world, still running anywhere unless you've purchased extended support in which case this compatibility question should be directed to IBM via this extended agreement.
The better upgrade path is to move to WMBv6.1, which is supported and is compatible with WMQv6. You can then move to WMQv7, with which WMBv6.1 is still compatible, and then urgently plan your move to WMBv7 or WMBv8.
When your management complains about all this work, point out it wouldn't be necessary if they hadn't allowed your estate to become so back version. _________________ Honesty is the best policy.

We did the upgrade from WMQ 6 to WMQ 7.0.1.4 with WMB 6.0.0.10 quite a while back (2 years ago?). Note that we used the pub/sub compatible mode and did not migrate pub/sub to MQ.
You will need to migrate pub/sub when you use WMB7 or WMB8.
Have fun _________________ MQ & Broker admin |

I have to disagree with this. IBM added support for WMQ 7.0.x to WMB 6.0 in one of the WMB 6.0 fixpacks. They will have tested this.
We ran with this combination in production for about two years.
Of course using WMQ 7.1 or 7.5 is another matter entirely. |

Thanks for all the valuable suggestions guys...
I have been gathering materials on the migration part. Will let you know how it goes.
BTW, the existing setup is WMQ6.0 on AIX with HACMP.
Now for the migration, is there anything that has to be taken care of for the HACMP part.
I read somewhere in the forum, that nothing has to be done explicitly for the HACMP configuration
Also any approach to do this migration with minimum business impact will help me greately..
Thanks!!! |

The WMQ support pac for HA/CMP was re-issued for WMQ 7.0.
Depending which features of this that you use, you might want to upgrade to the more recent support pack.
The only item that I changed to the newer version was the list of MQ processes (these are the ones stopped if necessary).
However we don't use the application monitors part of this support pac.
Incidentally IBM have a recommended order of process killing so I used that order. So my mqhaproc file looks like this
Code: |
amqzmuc0
amqzxma0
amqfcxba
amqfqpub
amqhasmx
amqharmx
amqzllp0
amqzlaa0
amqzlsa0
runmqchi
runmqlsr
amqcrsta
amqrrmfa
amqrmppa
amqzfuma
amqzdmaa
amqzmuf0
amqzmur0
amqzmgr0
amqpcsea
