Hi,
I am new in MQ area. Currently we have IBM MQSeries for AIX 5.1 in couple of our servers. And we plan to upgrade our systems but I can't find anything, including IBM courses, regarding "MQSeries for AIX". I only found "WebSphere MQ". Does it mean MQSeries does not exist any more and it is replaced with "WebSphere MQ"? If yes, do we need to install WebSphere application server with WebSphere MQ in order to make it work?
Thanks in advance

MQSeries is the old name of the product. It got renamed to WebSphere MQ with the 5.3 version of the product. 5.1 is out of support and you should definitely move forward to 5.3 (or even 6.0).
You don't need to install the WebSphere Application Server to use WMQ. |

IBM uses the name "WebSphere" for a family of about 200 different products, most, but not all, have to do with integration solutions.
It's simply a marketing ploy to attract customers saying - everything you need is in one suite called "websphere" - but the name really has no meaning, and many of the different products under the websphere suite are largely unrelated. |

IBM puts their products into groupings by brand. The five brands are:
WebSphere
DB2
Lotus
Tivoli
Rational
The MQ product used to stand alone and then got folded into the WebSphere brand (back in 2002 I believe). |
