One comes with the base Product and one doesn't.

I heard some people saying that Mapping is way more comfortable and execution way faster than in the base Messagebroker. So that might be a difference. Even though I can't really comment on it, as I have never used the TX node.

Also the mapping node is a pain. (very big IMHO)

...me too. And I've heard that it is sometimes slower than using the base product. I expect both are correct, depending on the circumstances.

One possible use of WTXMB (not WTX itself) I heard was that it would supplement one of the weak points of WMB, batch.
So what I've heard was that WTXMB could be a solution for batch, providing a gateway to a large number of files in/out, for example.

For instance, invoked by a message flow, a WTX map retrieves multiple files from external systems, merge, re-construct, and then, send to multiple systems.

One of the advantage here, I think, is that we can separate complex map logic such as retrieving, merging, and reconstructing data from WMB message flow logic.
When we consider WMB as an ESB, to cope with batch is always a concern...

Also please remember, various adapters including MQ are bundled already and although I've never tried this, WTX(formerly Mercator) is familiar with SAP integration so WTX should be a powerful tool for SAP integration.

Hope it helps.
