You can install MQ on a machine in an Active Directory domain so that it will use only the security on the local machine.
You may have difficulties validating AD users who are in the mqm group.
You can not configure MQ to use the Active Directory domain without following the procedures outlined in the Quick Beginnings guide. _________________ I am *not* the model of the modern major general.

Read Jeff's comments. The Quick Beginning Guide has specific guidelines for configuring MQ to operate correctly in an AD environment. There are, if I remember correctly, 2 things that need to be done at the DC level that will take care of your situation.
Since your customer is migrating to AD, you should configure MQ accordingly as they migrate. It will save you many headaches later on down the road and simplify management.
