We keep /var/mqm on an EMC drive that is replicated using SRDF to another datacenter. The EMC SRDF solution gurantees having the exact same /var/mqm files on both servers. We have MQ installed on both servers, but it is only running on the primary one. We use networking tricks such as DNS aliases to route all traffic to the DR server when we need to bring it up. It works great. Basically we chose to hand the work of when to commit the data to the EMC solution.
