Hello,
I have MQ Series 5.3 with Fixpack sp4 installed.
If I have to install the latest fix pack FP9, should I remove the previously installed fixpacks and then install the new fp RPMs?
Please let me know your recommendations. |

You don't have to. Just install it on the top. |

Unless you are running a Solaris Server. Then you have to pkgrm csd04 before you can install csd09. _________________ Yes, I am an agent of Satan but my duties are largely ceremonial. |

I was wondering the same thing, as I don't believe we removed CSD4 prior to installing CSD8 on our Solaris servers. I took a quick look at the readme for CSD9 and didn't notice any specifc mention to removing the previous CSD.
Is this an un-documented behaviour? |

Hi,
At a client site, they have MQ v5.3 on a Solaris 8 server and the CSDs were installed as follows:
- MQ v5.3 with CSD01
- CSD03
- CSD07
- CSD08
And another Solaris 8 server (same kernal level) with MQ and CSDs installed:
- MQ v5.3 with CSD01
- CSD08
Now they have a Pub/Sub application that get all kinds of problems (2009) when connecting to the first server but works PERFECTLY when connecting to the second server.
I have manually copied the binding file from the 2nd server to the 1st server and did the updates myself and the problem persists after the Pub/Sub app is re-started.
I have the 2 queue managers configured EXACTLY the same - same queues, same channels, same max # channels, same kernel parameters, etc.. they are exact clones.
I cannot figure out what is different between the two. It is just weird.
So, removing CSD04 and then putting on CSD09 might not be such a bad idea.
Regards,

Does MQ Series recommends to uninstall the previously installed fixPacks and then install the new ptfs or install the new ptfs on the top of existing ones?
Is there any reference in documentation somewhere? |

What exactly are you looking for (as think you got the answer from the replies above)?

FYI. The latest fixpack is FP10 (CSD10). |

Not exactaly.
I want to know what MQ Series document recommends. Either to install the fixpacks on top of the already installed fixpacks or erase the installed fixpacks and then install the new fp. |

Look in the Quick Beginnings of your platform. Look in the Applying Maintenance sectionsof the manual.
Also look in the redmes of the CSDs. |

Since removing the previous CSD is not the normal course of action (at least not, in my experience), I wouldn't have given this quote much weight, but I am because Chris is a respected contributing member of this community.
Chris, I'd like to know if you saw this documented somewhere or experienced problems going from CSD4 to CSD9. |

I opened up an ESR with IBM, and got the following response:
Code: |
You can install CSD09 on top of any CSD ( so long as it is a lower version) without having to remove the previous CSD first.
This is true for all distributed platforms.
