IBM Message Service Client for C/C++ (informally known as XMS) 1.1 has completed its open Beta programme and is now available as a Category2 SupportPac IA94.
XMS is a non-Java implementation of the Java Message Service (JMS) API, currently implemented to work with the IBM WebSphere messaging portfolio. Specifically, it can be used in C or C++ applications to send and receive JMS messages via IBM WebSphere Business Integration Brokers over Real-time Transport, via IBM WebSphere MQ queue managers, or via the default messaging provider within IBM WebSphere Application Server v6.
The following features have been added or enhanced during the Beta programme and are now available in the SupportPac:
- Publish / Subscribe for WebSphere MQ connections
- Bootstrapping and HTTP support for WebSphere Application Server 6 default message provider
- Support for retrieval of JMS administered objects from LDAP and File system JNDI directories
- A new, fully updated version of the XMS manual, with detailed description of XMS concepts and tasks, and full XMS 1.1 API reference
- Improved samples to illustrate how to use many of the features of the XMS API with any of the range of supported messaging transports
- Improved problem determination facilities using both trace and first failure data capture
Note that there have been some changes and rationalisations to the API - most notably to simplify the ConnectionFactory transport properties. Applications developed on earlier versions of XMS may need some modification to work with this version. The new manual provides a full description of the capabilities provided by XMS, and includes detailed descriptions of the new properties.
