If I make a change to the BATCHSZ on a sender channel, does this take effect immediately ? Do I have to stop and restart the channel to get the new value to take effect ?

You might have to adjust the receiver channel as well.
Read up in the intercommunications manual what rules apply...

Yes, you do have to stop and start the channel.

Note that reducing BATCHSZ has no effect unless there are more than BATCHSZ msgs on the xmitq. It is more complicated if BATCHINT is used; in that case there have to be BATCHSZ msgs being enqueued at no more than BATCHINT millisecond intervals.
