I have recently done some work at an organisation which has multiple clustered environments. Due to some poor management and a bug in a script, an active (circular) log file was removed from one of the machines almost a year ago. Since then the qm has not been able to start. This was only noticed when I was in there last week! The actual log file is long gone from the backup archive.

What I want to know is does anyone know of a workaround that will let me restart the qm with a fresh log (ie ignore the current one)?

Well, the "official" way is to delete and re-create the QM.

But, try searching this site using keywords like "create", "log", "copy", "QM", etc. You'll find a few hits for an unofficial, unsupported way to recover. YMMV.

Cheers,

I'm thinking that if the QM has been down for a year, they aren't going to mind if it's deleted and recreated!

I'm also thinking there's probably not much point in recreating it.

All true! - but if I follow that through there's not much need for my services either - that would be a bad thing.

Well it doesn't get much worse. How vital could this MQManager be if it was down for over a year before anyone noticed?
