Hello all

I just wanted to share the way I was able to install WebSphere MQ Server without having to ask the network administrator to create special MQ account to browse the domain.

Requirements:

- Create local account with administrator pivileges
- Your own Windows domain account
- Domain name (you can get this name under 'Network Identification' tab - System Properties)

Steps:

- Login with the local account and start the installation of WebSphere MQ server.
- At the end of the installation, you will be asked if your installation will be part of a Windows Domain. Select 'Yes' and then you will be prompted to enter the domain, domain login and password. You just need to enter your network domain, your own domain account and corresponding password)

Now you can login with your domain id and you will be able to use all features of WebSphere MQ Server.

Cheers!

what do i need to consider when configuring.

Also can anyone help me how to create folders (file systems) under /var filesystem in linux, i was trying to create one before installing websphere mq on my home pc.

The factors you need to consider before installing are in the Quick Beginnings guide.

The commands you use to make directories in Linux are the same in any linux, and are documented in almost any beginner's book you can find on Linux.

But you probably aren't ready to try installing MQ if you know linux that poorly.

Hi Brandon,

I was trying to create a directory mqm under /opt/ and /var/ but it is not letting me create. I am logged in as my user id which has root privileges( i am thinking). So i was stuck there.

Any tips.

thanks
sk.

How do you know it isn't letting you create it?

How do you know you have root priviledges?

How do you know you need to specifically create these directories before hand?

Jeff,

I am not new to Linux but a beginner. I installed linux on my windows 2000 Pro with a dual boot. I long time time back created user id and recently created a " mqm " user id.

Do i need to give any specific privileges( root, adm...etc) ?

i used " mkdir mqm " under /opt as well as /var but i get a message that i dont have the sufficient privileges.

Please advise.

sk

If you don't have permissions to create dirs under /opt or /var, then you aren't running mkdir as a user that has root priviledges.

And again, go read the Quick Beginnings Guide For Linux

Folks,

Its my bad, i forgot to "su" from my user home. Once i did an "su" and entered the super user password, i was in the super user shell and could create "mqm" directories there under /var and /opt file systems.

Hi albin,
I created a local user account as you have specified with all rights. I logged into that local account and installed WMQ. But still I am not able to connect to other systems and I am not able to use MQ using my Windows network login though I have given that my domain with user id and password be considered.
The third problem is that I am not able to reply in the PostCard. I can only send messages through the postcard. I cannot reply to the messages sent.
Can you please help me. I need to be able to connect to other systems.
Regards,
Thripura Sundari

The quick beginning should have all the information you need to test locally and across the network. Anything beyond that and you want to look into the intercommunications manual

Enjoy

Hi Albin,
Thanks for the help. It actually worked. Due to other problems, I couldnt have proper admin rights though my profile was added as an administrator. Now, the problem is solved when admin rights issue is solved.
Thanks again!
Regards,
Thripura Sundari.
