I had a question/problem asked of me today and I am not aware of a solution to it so I thought I would throw it out here for discussion.
I have an application programmer that is wanting to know what return and reason codes were returned to his program when his program ran. This is on z/OS but I placed it in here because I think it would equally apply to other platforms.
The z/OS support packs that I thought were closest to providing this (MP1B and MO12) understandably don't seem to provide this (Unless I am missing something).
I admit that the application program should ultimately be responsible for producing their own audit log of return and reason codes but I was wondering if there is any way of providing an independant (and retrospective) list of the return and reason codes MQ returned by MQ to a program? Personally, I can't think of one 'out of the box'.
I accept that doing this is potentially a CPU cycle hog but if it could be turned off and on like a trace then maybe that overhead would be acceptable.
Maybe there an exit point where we could cut our own SMF (or EVENT log) record for our development queue managers to provide this?
