when I am trying to checkout a workitem I am getting FMC error 503 that the item can not be checked out. But I had my workitem in ready state and the process in running state. why does this is happenning? can any one please help....

Is your workitem a program activity? If not, that could be the problem. I've not run into this before, if you send me your FDL I will have a look.

May be that is possible if you are doing a checkout on an activity that is marked not for checkout.

check your activity properties to see if you selected 'Program activities cannot be CheckedOut'.
