Does anyone have experience of measuring process elapsed times when suspends are being used? Particularly using WBI Monitor (but any experienced views are welcome)

I would like to determine how best to explain how elapsed times, both including and excluding suspend times, can be presented to a business - ideally using an 'out of the box' solution like Monitor

Furthermore, owing to our specific requriements, does "the clock stop" when the process goes into the "Suspending" state, or is it only when it reaches a "Suspended" state. (I suspect the latter, but would prefer the former!).

My guess is that there is a standard WBI Monitor report to show process elapsed and suspended times, but that it would not included "suspending" time. However, from what I can glean from WBI Monitor, it should be possible to setup a report that measures the "Suspending" time for a process...(?)

Whilst we're here - is there a "User Manual" for WBI Monitor? I can only find an installation guide. I've been trying to find out what standard default reports are setup in Monitor.

I'm wondering if anyone out there used Monitor to this extent?, or has anyone come up with another elegant solution?

cheers,
Nick

Nick:

Not being a big monitor user I cant help too much with what you are doing, but I suspect you are correct about the clock stopping only on "suspended" as opposed to "suspending". I am not sure how I would go about doing a calculation to get that "suspending" time.

As to Doc... I searched my archives and have the following documents that I can send you if you would like:

IBM WBI Monitor: Whats New in 4.2.3
IBM WBI Monitor: User Guide 4.2.3
IBM WBI Monitor: Deployment Guide 4.2.3
IBM WBI Monitor: Administration Guide 4.2.3

I found these in a folder of mine labelled "Instal Monitor From", so I suspect that these might have com from that jar file or whatever it was that they did the distribution with. If you can not locate these let me know and I will email.

Also I have a presentation from a T3:

WBI Monitor: New Features in Release 4.2.3 April 1,2003

This may be available on one of the IBM sites on the web.

GOOD LUCK

Regards
John

Hi Nick,

I did not understand the details of your requirement , but Monitor has a Filter button in the workflow dashboard , where in you can filter the process instances by state - and "Suspending" is one of the states it supports.

Thanks
