I am taking baby steps in learning the new paradigm shift thats happening with IBM's Business Integration suite. I just want to know if MQ has any/what role in this new scenario ( with workflow, ICS being plug-ins ) to WBISF and all the stuff.
If any one has any documentation/links, pls post them here. _________________ Thanks

I'm not exactly sure what shift you are talking about. However, IBM is touting an Enterprise Service Bus (ESB) that is used to connect the varying things in your network. This is an architectural concept but all of the details have WMQ in the middle as a transport. The broker products also show up. |

But we'll see what MQ v6 is. _________________ I am *not* the model of the modern major general. |

I'm really looking forward to the eclipse based console, I'm sure they'll really improve on the mmc based stuff. |

Hi,
Actually, MQ Explorer works really well except that it cannot connect to z/OS (OS/390) queue manager. So hopefully now that z/OS queue managers will support PCF commands in v6, they will added this feature.
IBM is porting MQ Explorer from a C/C++ MMC application to Java based Eclipse plugin - this is a monster port. Hopefully, there won't be too many bugs.
Speaking as a vendor, IBM has to very careful on how many new features they added to MQ Explorer. Because IBM has been begging vendors to support MQ since it was launched in 1994. Not too long ago, they offered vendors a bunch of freebies to support MQ (i.e. education, products, etc.).
Now that there is a reasonable wide variety of vendors and solutions available for MQ, it would be very disconcerning if IBM decided to give all those features way free in the base product. I'm sure even IBM's Tivoli division would be bother by this.
I don't think there will be a problem because IBM will be introducing their ESB messaging product later this year and I am sure they will want vendors support it. So, IBM will make sure that they keep vendors happy.
Anyway, that's my 2 cents.
Regards,
Roger Lacroix

Yep, but the functionality bar has to move upwards.
I remember buying stacker to compress my disks for Windows 3.1, it's now built into NTFS. Microsoft is toying with releasing an anti virus tool.
But, with all the good open source projects around it's easier than ever to build complex high-value software products. |
