I have MQ Explorer(MMC 1.2) installed on a W2K Professional. I could show the remote queue managers successfully using the IP Address and Port numbers on which the queue managers are listening. I have observed two issues so far with showingup queues on MMC.

I created a Queue but it wouldn't appear on the server while the console reflects that the queue is created.

I have created a new console file(.mmc file) and added queue managers to my console. The problem comes when I try to add a queue manager with same name as the one that is on console but with different IP-ADDRESS(PORT#). The explorer console says that queue manager is already present in the console and I can't think of what the deal is.

Any such experiences to anyone? Any ideas why this happens? Any information is appreciated.

Thanks,
Murali

If you put your mouse on the queues entry and right click there is a refresh option, does the queue show up then ???

As far a multiple Queue Managers with the same name, I have been told/read that is not a good practice.

Jeff, thanks for the reply. We are using a special Queue Manager to route the traffic to appropriate Queue Managers on each AIX box. Hence my predecessors gave a common name to the queue managers that have common functionality. So I can't help much about naming convention now. But a collegue of mine has been able to connect to queue managers of same name with different ip addresses but he doesn't remember how he did that. One more thing to think about is when the Explorer is smart enough to say QUEUE-MANAGER name on IPADRESS, why can't it take the same message as input?
thanks,
murali

I have installed MQ Server 5.2 and haven't noticed this problem lately.
I prefer using (domain-name:port) to show up the queue managers.
Thanks

Congrats... BUT 5.2 goes out of service by the end of this year... so you better move to 5.3...
