Hi!

Is it possible to install MQSeries Client v 5.3 and to keep existing instalation of MQSeries Server v 5.2, on the same Solaris host?

Yes, you can connect different levels of the client to different levels of the server.

I'm not sure that's the question, Ron.

I think that on Unix, MQ is a bit more particular about where it stores files, wanting to put stuff in /opt/mqm and /var/mqm regardless, and so trying to install a new version of the client onto the same machine as a back version of the server may cause problems.

But as always, try it and see. That's what you've got a development enviornment for, right?

Well, Jeff, I think you are probably right. I read 5.2 and 5.3 and saw connectivity rather than installation. And you are right about file systems being shared regardless of whether it is client or server.

IBM very specifically says that you cannot install 2 different versions of MQ on the same server.

You can have MQ5.2 client installed.

You cannot have two versions of server installed on the same machine as the location is same. But if you install 5.2 client, it will over write the 5.3 client. But server will work as is.. I did this for one of our application folks on sun solaris. I did not find any documentation saying yes or no for that..
