Hello all,
We are moving from dev to stage / QA (on AIX). I am looking for any best practices / red books that talk about:
1. Migration
2. Steps for backup and recovery
3. Other necessary precautions etc
Please let me know if any one of you had come across any such document.
Our environment: WBIMB, WBI Adapters, WMQ - Broker on AIX.
Thanks,
Basha. |

Vennela,
Thanks for the reply. But I am looking for a document that covers steps when we migrate from one environment to other. We are developing one, but just wanted to cross check ours with it.
Thanks,
Basha. |

Have you checked the SupportPac page as linked from the above?
IC04 might be useful. |

IC04 helps us a lot. Thank you.
Also, we have to address
1. How do we take backups of MB resources, (some thing might go down while deploying)
2. How do we do roll back in such scenarios.
Thanks,
Basha. |

basha,
Backing up MB resources include,
Queue Manager Backups
Backup of the configuration manager database
Backup of the Broker's database.
I would keep different versions of the bar file that have been deployed to the brokers. Just in case if there is some problem with the latest bar file, I would roll back to the last bar file that works fine.
Also search this site for backups to find more information. _________________ Nyzam

I'm not sure there's a good reason to back up the broker database.
Well, there might be a good one, but I'm not sure there's a great one.
The good one would be that it's easier to delete a crashed broker from the config mgr if you can restore the database.
But it should be possible to completely rebuild a broker at any point, with appopriate use of QM configuration backups and version control of flows and sets. _________________ I am *not* the model of the modern major general. |

Thank you all for sharing your knowledge. The replies to this post and the previous posts on backup and recovery helped me a lot. Also the section "backup and recovery" is also good.
And a support pac IC04 talks about version control and change management. All these put together will give me a clear picture of what to do.
Thanks,
