In solaris 8 platform, what is the risk of stopping broker with "-i" parameter?
i.e. mqsistop -i <BROKER>

It's same as doing a "kill -9" on any process.
This could cause other problems like the broker does not start correctly the next time or the deploy operation gives problems.

The broker keeps couple of semaphores in /var/mqsi/locks directory. Typically they are cleaned up on a normal shutdown. If they are left behind when the broker tries to start it thinks that the semaphore in that directory is a valid one and will try to use it but since it is no longer valid, you will get an abend. So, if you use mqsistop -i command, ensure that the files in the lock directory for that broker's service id are cleaned up.

I seem to remember that it was IBM that recommended using the '-i' option, to speed up the shutdown. The implication was that it was OK to use this as the normal shutdown method.

With "-i" isn't there a chance that an EG would be killed while it's processing a message. Depending on the Transaction settings, you might lose it.

Cheers,
