I stumbled across this phrase in WBI guide and did not understand when it says "Hierarchical tree structure"
I know that Brokers can be grouped into a COLLECTIVE for all kind of good reasons but what is it technically a "Hierarchical tree structure" ??

Here it is :
Quote:
There are three ways of connecting brokers together to make a broker domain:

1)Brokers can be joined together in a hierarchical tree structure.
2)Brokers can be grouped together into collectives, where a collective is a set of one or more brokers that are directly connected to each other.
3)Collectives can be joined together in a tree structure; this is a combination of the previous two ways of grouping brokers together.

Is there any other way that we can connect brokers in network w/out
Collectives??
can some one explain ..... pls??

I can't really explain, as I haven't gone in depth in broker connectivity.

But I'd suspect that "hierarchical tree structure" means that you can assign different brokers to publish on specific topics in the topic hierarchy.

So, like if your topics are rooted at A, and you have three main sub topics B,C, and D....
then you can set up a broker to publish all stuff from /A/B and another to publish everything from /A/C, and etc. And then link them together so that they collectively publish everything on /A.

Just a guess, really.

Unless it's a reference to the way the SupportPac Pub/Sub brokers work. They must always be connected in a tree fashion.

Cheers,

I think you are correct Jeff.

Is there any other way that we can connect brokers in network with-out using concept of Collectives ??

I don't. I think EddieA is correct.

Define "connect"? Connect for what purpose?
