Is it possible to browse a queue - that is, read a message or even its descriptor without removing it from the queue - using the MQ Base Java API and not the JMS API? If so, can you send me an example of the method call? I am interested in checking the timestamp of the next message in the queue without removing it. Many thanks.

Go to http://www.developer.ibm.com/tech/sampmq.html
Search for mqbrowse.java and amqsbcg.java.

One or both of those will get you started.
