I am installing MQ series on AIX 5.3 server for the first time. Can I install the MQ as different owner, other then ROOT.
Also, can I install the application on the same server not as a root.
Thanks for all your help.
Regards!

My Unix Admin is suggesting that we install the MQ under ROOT user. I personally don't agree with that approach.
According to our Unix Admin, MQ series will only be installed and run as root, not under any other user.
What you guys think?
Thanks for your help. _________________ Arif Bangash

Install it as root. Whether you use Smitty or not, during the install process the mqm user will be created. Everything that needs to belong to mqm will belong to mqm.
This is normal. _________________ Yes, I am an agent of Satan but my duties are largely ceremonial. |

So I take it, YOU CANNOT or WILL NOT read the Quick Beginning manual as suggested by Jeff!!!!!! It CLEARLY spells out what UserID must be used to install MQ on AIX.

Roger,
Actually, I read the "Quick Beginnings Manual" more then three times.
The issue is not about the instructions in the manual, but my concern regardind the best approach to install the MQ.
My Unix Admin will only install MQ under Root owner not under MQM.
I do not agree with this approach, because if we install the MQ under root as owner, then we will need Root to execute the mq administerative command and i think that will not be a very good practice.
So that why asked you guys opnion.
Thanks for all your help. _________________ Arif Bangash

The instructions in the manual ARE the best approach to install the MQ. _________________ I am *not* the model of the modern major general. |
