All,

I have a client using MQ Client v5.3 CSD03 with ETC (Extended Transactional Client) on Solaris v8.

They recently deployed a J2EE WebLogic application that makes heavy use of ETC and they have had some issues / problems with MQ (yes, we opened a ticket with IBM but IBM said we needed to get the v5.3 MQ Servers to CSD08 before they would look into it – this process was just completed).

Now BEA is saying that IBM fixed one of the issues in CSD06 for MQ Client, so now the client wants to bring the v5.3 MQ Clients up to CSD08. I have searched IBM, Google, etc but I cannot figure out how to upgrade v5.3 MQ Client with ETC??

For those who don’t know, first you install MQ Client, then apply CSD and then finally install ETC. ETC will overwrite / add files to /var/mqm/ on Solaris. I would love to apply CSD08 to the current install but I afraid that it may destroy the ETC installation.

Also, they are running the original release of ETC (Summer 2003). There must be a CSD for it.

Does anybody have a doc / readme for applying a CSD to MQ Client & CSD with ETC previously installed? Anyone from Hursley want to volunteer some information?

Thanks,
Roger Lacroix

There's been no service required to the unique components of the ETC. So just update the regular client code.

Hi,

OK. But the docs for ETC was very particular about the order of installing components.

Should I first do a package remove for ETC, apply the CSD and then do the package add for ETC? (or simply install the latest CSD over top of everything currently installed?)

Oh sure, I'm going to say to my client,
"let me upgrade the MQ Client on a WebLogic development box where 30+ application currently test and if it does not work then I'll try plan B"

I don't want to get laughed out of the meeting (or loose a contract).

This is the kind of thing IBM is supposed to test and document. Right Hursley.

I took this to mean that nothing has changed in the unique components of the ETC and that the CSD install would only update things that were part of the client and not part of the ETC.

However, I've never messed with the ETC myself.
