Hello. I have a .NET assembly that I have built against amqmdnet.dll v1.0.0.2. I recently deployed it to a test machine and placed the most recent version of the MQ Client on the machine only to discover that the client ships with amqmdnet.dll v1.0.0.3. Since my app works with the former version and that version is forward compatable with new versions of the MQ Client I was thinking that the best thing to do would be to deploy the amqmdnet.dll v1.0.0.2 with my application. This would protect me from future version of the dll being deployed with the MQ Client. The customer would have to have a version of the MQ Client installed but I would be protected from different version of amqmdnet.dll.
So my question is, can I freely distribute amqmdnet.dll with my application?
Thanks in advance,

I am not a lawyer, so I cant answer that question, but I doubt it. Whether legal or not, we have sufferred in the past from when customers have tried shipping parts of MQ around with their apps.
However, the thing I would say is

The version which is now part of the product was originally based off the code you have with the 1.0.0.2, but lots and lots of changes and fixes were made.
If you spend the time now getting your app to work with the 1.0.0.3, it should stay working for the lifetime of 5.3, as we try exceedingly hard to maintain backward compatibility and we normally view it as an APARable (fixable) problem if not. There are one or two exceptions, but thats our rule. Try getting it working with eg. fp6 or 7, it shouldnt be a major change, and is a lot more desirable.
Remember, the version you are using is unsupported and if you find a problem you will have to work around it. If you cant work around it you are in trouble! With the supported version, you can get help from IBM... |
