The logs for the queue manager ran out of space and I am now not able to start the qmgr. The logs do not show any entry of the log file number to be present for qmgr restart or media recovery.
The error message is as shown below -
An Internal Websphere MQ has occured (Failed to ceate Mutex semaphore:Global\mqm.qmqrs.QMGRNAME.1.sem.
The FDC also shows the same info...also gives the erroring process.
Not sure how to recover the qmgr now Any help would be great.
Thanks.

Well if rebooting doesn't work....
Restore from backup or start from scratch. _________________ Yes, I am an agent of Satan but my duties are largely ceremonial. |

Rebooting certainly did not help...but I need to recover the old messages as well. If I have to dump the qmgr then...I need to understand this error message.
There are no other qmgrs running on the server and hence there should be enough resources to start the qmgr !! |

OK look,... I am not an expert with WMQ on the Microsoft platform, but regardless of whether you were using Circular or Linear Logging it sounds to me like you are pooched.

The logs for the queue manager ran out of space |
My understanding of Microsoft OS's is that if data is being written to a full directory the data goes to the Gates equivalent of /dev/null.
If this is the case then I doubt you will be able to recover the old messages. But hey, the messages may be in the Recycle Bin, but I doubt it.
I could be wrong, it has happened before.
Asside from that, you can either wait until Monday afternoon when more members have had a chance to view this topic or open a ticket with IBM. _________________ Yes, I am an agent of Satan but my duties are largely ceremonial. |

Thanks for the information.
But one correction - there were several messages even before the space crunch happened...i.e. many messages were present on the queue before the directory ran out of space.
I have raised a ticket with IBM earlier and also discussed many problems on this forum... So, I guess I will go with the later...will wait till afternoon. |

I would think that the messages that were written to the logs were sent before the initial failure or the MQManager. But then I guess that depends on the TRIGGER Threshold among a number of other things etc. etc.
Good luck...
Do let us know how this works or fails to work out. _________________ Yes, I am an agent of Satan but my duties are largely ceremonial. |
