Hi,
I am trying to udnerstand what level of errors (and events) are logged in AMQERR0#.LOG files at MQ level and at Queue Manager level.
I've typically seen messages like:
QM started/ended
Repository Manager started/ended
TCP/IP related errors
API Exit load errors
But certain events like messages going to DLQ, errors with Trigger Monitor etc. are never shown. How should I interpret this - Are these events not treated as errors by MQ?
I've gone through System Admin Guide but not much detail is available.
Any pointers to more info on this would be great.
1. What level of events are logged? Can we customise this?
2. Can we configure the size of these files? (By default each file is of 256KB)
Thanks and Regards,

What you typically find in the error logs are informational messages on the way MQ works (channel started, channel stopped etc ...) and error messages about the MQ system (channel wrong sequence number ...)
Most of the severe Infrastructure errors will also produce an FDC typically in /var/mqm/errors
Messages going to the DLQ, to backout queues etc are not errors but WMQ working as designed. Error with trigger monitors can be redirected into a log file at trigger monitor start.
Those are not infrastructure errors but mostly application and configuration level errors. Messages in the DLQ have a DLQ header that should give you a good idea about what is wrong with them, or why they ended there.

/var/mqm/errors is for System wide MQ issues/event. (not always errors)
To see MQMGR specific event and errors look in /var/mqm/qmgrs/MQMGRNAME/errors this is where MQMGR specific events are recorded including channels starting and stopping, TCP/IP and yes SYSTEM.DEAD.LETTER.QUEUE events etc. etc.
This generally does not include Tigger Monitor or Listener process events. I'm not sure how to capture those.
The only time I have encountered a situation in which an event regarding a message being place on the SYSTEM.DEAD.LETTER.QUEUE has not been recorded in /var/mqm/qmgrs/MQMGRNAME/errors/AMQERR0*.LOG has been on a WorkFlow MQManager.
MQWF frustrates the hell out of me sometimes. _________________ Yes, I am an agent of Satan but my duties are largely ceremonial. |
