I realize this may seem like a dumb question. But it's not, exactly.
I've looked at the documentation, and all the WBI adapters I'm looking for specify that they require a broker to run.
But... do they? If I configure an adapter in a remote agent configuration, using MQSeries as a transport...
Can I avoid using a broker, and merely use the adapter to load and unload queues?
The client won't be willing to pay for another broker in their architecture. And the broker they have is not WBI Adapter compliant (i.e., it's not made by IBM!)
So could I, for instance, configure the e-Mail adapter in a remote agent configuration, connecting to a queue manager, to load incoming messages onto a queue, and send messages from a queue without a broker installed on the network?
I think the answer is No. But I'd like it not to be! _________________ I am *not* the model of the modern major general. |

You can use the adaptors without a broker, you just need to construct the messages correctly. |

So the adapters don't need to connect to a broker for startup/shutdown type activities or configuration tasks... ?
Is the format of the messages the adapter expects based on the configuration, or more hardwired? _________________ I am *not* the model of the modern major general. |

Hi Jeff,
the format of the adapter control messages (i.e. stop adapter) is a rather simple xml format.
The format of the data messages which are normally send to or received
from a broker (WBIMB or WAS or WICS) depends on the business object you use.
Its a xml schema based format which any broker product should be able to use.
Theres also an RFH2 header in front of the data segment,
where you have to put some informations and will receive
some status informations ( => usr segment)
Greetings

yup....if ur using adapters with wmqi as Integration broker...u dont need the broker to be up and running if want to start/stop the adapter.
all u need z a Queue mgr.
In other words, Adapters can run as Stand alone with WMQI as the broker.
and the header it needs is a simple rfh version 2, formed with Version, Format, Encoding, CodedCharSetId, Flags, NameValueCCSID, mcd.Msd
thts it...
all set to go!!!.......
