Hi,

This might be a stupid question but is it really necessary to do a daily backup if I never make any changes to the MQ objects? Assuming that there is a catastrophic event and I need to restore the MQ objects or restore files from a tape backup, will it make a difference if the backup was done the night before or a week ago? (note that files coming in the queue are processed right away).

Thanks

I usually only run saveqmgr only after I have made changes, defined new objects or deleted old objects on any given MQManager. I then save a local copy and ftp a copy of the savemqmgr file to a remote server for safe keeping.

I wrote a Windows bat file that calls the client version of MS03 every morning at 6 AM. It connects to all my QMs one by one, and saves the output in a folder specific to each QM. It deletes any MS03s older than 90 days, so I have a rolling 90 record.

At 6:30, Tivoli parses the MS03 output file looking for "failed" or "aborted". If found we get an email letting us know one or more MS03s that day did not work.
