Hi all,

I have an incoming xml that has some special characters in one of the fields. I do not really need that field or data in that field after transformation. My XSL Transformation fails bcoz of those special characters. So, i thought of setting that field to ' ' before sending it to XSLT node.

data in that field looks like this:

CF 1½"

when i see that field in RFHUtil PARSED i found following path i am using in my SET statement,

when i debug, i can see XML tree under message populated.

i tried,
SET OutputRoot.XML.sap_isu_rpl_order_zisu_rpl_orderext01:sap_isu_rpl_order
_zisu_rpl_orderext01.sap_isu_rpl_order_zisu_rpl_orderext01:Data_record.
sap_isu_rpl_order_zisu_rpl_orderext01_cwdata:sap_isu_rpl_order_zisu_rpl
_orderext01_cwdata.sap_isu_rpl_order_zisu_rpl_orderext01_cwdata:sap_i
su_rpl_order_zisu_rpl_orderext01_e2isu_ord_hd000.sap_isu_rpl_order_zis
u_rpl_orderext01_e2isu_ord_hd000:sap_isu_rpl_order_zisu_rpl_orderext0
1_e2isu_ord_hd000.sap_isu_rpl_order_zisu_rpl_orderext01_e2isu_ord_hd
000:sap_isu_rpl_order_zisu_rpl_orderext01_e2isu_ord_co000.sap_isu_rpl_
order_zisu_rpl_orderext01_e2isu_ord_co000:sap_isu_rpl_order_zisu_rpl_o
rderext01_e2isu_ord_co000.sap_isu_rpl_order_zisu_rpl_orderext01_e2isu
_ord_co000:sap_isu_rpl_order_zisu_rpl_orderext01_e2isu_ord_dl000.sap_
isu_rpl_order_zisu_rpl_orderext01_e2isu_ord_dl000:sap_isu_rpl_order_zis
u_rpl_orderext01_e2isu_ord_dl000.sap_isu_rpl_order_zisu_rpl_orderext01
_e2isu_ord_dl000:sap_isu_rpl_order_zisu_rpl_orderext01_e2isu_ord_equi
000.sap_isu_rpl_order_zisu_rpl_orderext01_e2isu_ord_equi000:sap_isu_r
pl_order_zisu_rpl_orderext01_e2isu_ord_equi000.sap_isu_rpl_order_zisu_
rpl_orderext01_e2isu_ord_equi000:BAUFORM=' ';

it didnt work,
IT GIVES SAME MESSAGE 'INVALID DOCUMENT STRUCTURE'

any input on how to get rid of special characters in incoming xml message will be greatly appreciated.

I can convert it to blob and reachout and remove those special characters. is there a better solution than that?

Do you have validation on the input node(MRM) turned on? That might be the problem, I have seen many problems with special characters and XML-XSLT. I would first try to eliminate as many parsers as possible, so delay parsing, no validation, etc. I haven't found a parser yet that doesn't fail under some certain input. You may have to eventually use the BLOB - replace bad character method. (That's what I ended up doing on user input fields on the web. You can't imagine how much trouble I had because someone wanted an umlaut in their name.)

waugh,

What are the chances that the sending application can wrap the special characters in a CDATA section?

well,

chances are 5 messages a day, but i worked around by CONVERTING IT BLOB, REMOVING X'00, X'C2, X'BD characters and then apply ResetContentDescriptot back to XML.

Thanks for the input guys
