Is it possible to install MQ5.3 on AIX using a GUI like Xserver or something?

NO

You have to use one of the native installers like SMIT or (installp or geinstall)

Yeah, you can also hit yourself in the head with a hammer for 30 minutes because it feels so good when you stop.

The last time I used the GUI Version of smit it was almost as slow as the IBM Certificate Managment Tool GUI.

it is not really any more slow or useless than text based smit, not that that is saying much.

Oh Sure...

Except that, to get the GUI Version of smit to run on your Desktop you have to be running an XServer Emulator like Exceed and you have to export your DISPLAY. Then once you get it loaded you have to wait anywhere from fifteen seconds to two minutes for the screen to paint depending on the bandwidth of the network you are working on and the performance of the PC you are working on among other things.

I am not sure what if anything you have against smit or AIX but I kinda like the text based version of smit.

Further I am not exactly sure what you are basing your performance expectations on in reference to the text based version of smit. I use the text based version of smit with Putty and the response times are fine.

I think the MQ series kit is in the format of rpm files.

You will have to use smit, installp.

Even you load a X-windows GUI setup, you will run the same SMIT but with background colors, etc
NO big difference.
