Problem:

AIX 5.1, MQSeries 5.3.02, Installation

When running SMITTY install, it looks as if it's installing the filesets but it doesn't actually install the binaries, create the mqm user/group or create the var/mqm entries.

The only thing it does do is 'restore' the license file from one of the filesets. After the phantom install, the product is still listed as installed, even though it isn't.

This is more likely a bos/installp issue but if anyone has any ideas I'd be interested.

After digging on this it looks like selected binaries on the system have a size of 0 bytes. This is probably the result of installing service with too little space, or something like that.

Is it possible to completely refresh the binaries on the system without reinstalling the o/s; and keep all of the current settings, etc?

There was various binaries on the target system with file size zero. Assumably, installp was dependent on one of these; copying the offending binaries from another AIX system solved the problem.
